League is no stranger to having champions gifted with unique mechanics, and despite there being plenty of invisibility spells, none are as powerful or iconic as Evelynn’s signature trait, the near-permanent invisibility.
The Widowmaker plays a different game, where lurking in the shadows and being omnipresent across the map are the main objective. Players should focus on the mental side of the game, keeping the enemy team in constant uncertainty and fear of getting one shot by this dominant AP Assassin.
Her kit revolves around catching out unsuspecting enemies and deleting their HP bars, escaping with the repositioning mechanic on her Ultimate ability. Despite this, Evelynn still excels at clearing jungle camps, having a more than decent clear speed for both solo and multi-mob camps.
The current meta also provides Evelynn with plenty of customization options in terms of her items, adding up to a versatile Ap Assassin with plenty of playmaking and one-shot potential.
This being said, it is now time for us to dive into the main topic of this guide, Jungle clearing with Evelynn, the Widowmaker. Stick around because we will also be revealing a handful of useful tips to instantly boost your Evelynn performance!
Summoner Spells
Flash + Smite
Besides the mandatory Smite, Evelynn is best off with running Flash as her second Summoner Spell, as it only adds even more mobility and escape tools. However, as with most Assassins, more experienced players can go for a more offensive alternative, such as Ignite.
Evelynn can get away instantly, given the split second of invulnerability granted by her R, alongside the blink, decreasing the amount of utility provided by Flash. Nevertheless, for individuals who haven’t played Evelynn before, Flash remains the safer option.
Best Runes for Evelynn

The standard runes for Evelynn can be found in the Domination tree, as Electrocute, Sudden Impact, Zombie Ward, and Ultimate Hunter synergize perfectly with her kit, increasing her damage output while making perfect use of her invisibility and rapid combos.
For the secondary runes, high ELO players will often go for Absolute Focus in combination with Gathering Storm, in order to further extend their damage with the massive AP scaling.
Although some players have been spotted running First Strike or even Conqueror on The Widowmaker, those builds are yet to be proven consistently effective, as opposed to the Electrocute build.
Feel free to experiment with the runes, but for the beginning, we recommend sticking to the classic Domination tree runes, followed by Absolute Focus and Gathering Storm.

Best Items for Evelynn

Start: Hailblade + Refillable Potion
Mythic: Hextech Rocketbelt
Considering how impactful Evelynn’s charm is, Hextech Rocketbelt makes for an ideal item to help her close the gaps and reach her opponents. Besides its active, Rocketbelt also provides plenty of useful stats, burst damage, and a great Mythic Passive, making it the ideal pick for Evelynn.
Core: Sorcerer’s Shoes, Lichbane, Mejai’s Soulstealer
Finishing options: Void Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Cosmic Drive, Zhonya’s Hourglass
(Off Meta)
The other alternative to Hextech Rocketbelt is Night Harvester, which provides similar stats but trades the active dash for additional damage. Although it mostly comes down to personal preference, players who run Night Harvester can commonly be spotted building a Banshee’s Veil as well, probably in order to compensate for the dash through its passive spell shield.
Best Skill Order For Evelynn Jungle

Q > E > W > R
Since your Q is your primary trading tool and camp clearing tool, it should be the first ability maxed, followed by the E, which enables Evelynn to truly one-shot enemy squshies.
The Best Jungle Paths for Evelynn
And now for the main topic of this guide, Jungle pathing with Evelynn. We are going to cover the possible starts from each side, but players should keep a few factors in mind when deciding upon where their Jungle pathing should start. These are:
- Which laners are going to provide more help in clearing the first camp?
- Counter-jungle opportunities, based on where the enemy Jungler is likely to start.
- Which lane would you like to gank first, depending on both the allied and enemy champions.
Don’t forget the primary objective when playing as Evelynn, winning the mental game. For that, you will be needing access to her permanent invisibility, thus rushing LVL 6 as soon as possible is imperative.

Red Side, Red Clear

Clearing the first camp can be a bit more challenging when your Top Laner is the only one helping, given how fragile early-game Evelynn is. Thankfully, you can make up the lost HP by using the first charge of your Smite on the large Krug, and letting your Q’s finish the job.
The second Smite charge should be used on the Blue Buff, which will help with keeping your Mana bar full for the duration of your first full clear. Clear the Raptors and Wolves on your way to the Blue Buff, as Evelynn can very easily deal with multi-mob camps.
After clearing the second buff, you can move into the River to clear the Scuttler, but unless threatened, clear the Gromp first. Given its healing properties, you will be left at nearly full Health after taking it, allowing you to contest the Scuttler if needed.
After securing the extra vision on the River, by slaying the Scuttler, you can start looking for an opportunity to gank. Without her signature invisibility, Evelynn’s ganks are slightly more difficult to execute, but if you manage to land your charm, there shouldn’t be a problem in securing the kill.
Red Side, Blue Clear

The Blue Clear is slightly more favorable for Evelynn, as the bonus Mana regeneration and help provided by the duo Laners can accelerate her ascent to LVL 6.
Clear the Blue and start chipping away at the Gromp, finishing it with the first Smite charge. From there, move towards the Wolves and Raptors, securing them with repeated Qs, in order to reach your second buff as soon as possible.
Using the second Smite charge on the Red Buff gives you an opening to do three things: finish your clear with the Krugs and Scuttler, go straight to the Scuttler in order to secure some extra vision over the River, or go ahead and gank Top or Mid.
Generally, you will want to finish your first full clear, as it is the safest way to reach LVL 6. Still, if there are any windows on either lane, do not hesitate to try your luck landing that charm and finishing the kills with your massive burst damage.

Blue Side, Red Clear

Switching sides towards and looking at the image above, we can tell how similar this clear is to the Red Side start. The only key difference here is that with the help of your Bot Laners and the extra regeneration and slow granted by the Red Buff, Evelynn players can force an early gank Bot, hoping to at least burn some Summoner Spells.
If the gank is unlikely to convert into anything, continue your clear with the remaining multi-mob camps, into the Blue Buff and Gromp, using your second Smite on the sturdier opponent, and lastly finish the Scuttler in order to gain more vision control and some extra gold.
From this position, force your presence into Top or Mid, by threatening a gank. Even if it does not convert into a kill, the early pressure will keep winning you the mental game once you hit LVL 6.
Blue Side, Blue Clear

Lastly for the Blue Side Blue Buff start, clear the first buff and Smite the Gromp, in order to gain some tempo.
Finish the Wolves and Raptors rapidly with your Q, to then rush the Red Buff using Smite. You can once again skip the Krugs and head straight into the River to secure the Scuttler, or you could just as well gank Bot or Mid, before taking the Scuttler.
Once again we need to reiterate that if the lanes are not in a favorable position for your ganks, keep farming up and unlock your invisibility ASAP, making the full clear the right path to focus your efforts on.
Tips and Tricks for Evelynn
- Once Evelynn hits LVL 6, her main focus is to roam and gank as often as possible, making the best out of her passive invisibility and element of surprise.
- Use the slow from your Smite on enemy champions as a tool to aim your charms with.
- Although the enemy Jungler is likely to gank early, there is nothing wrong with spending a bit more time in the Jungle, in order to safely reach your Ultimate. Still, Evelynn should constantly be on the lookout for overextending targets to punish.
- Remember how the bonus damage on your Ultimate, granted by the threshold, acts similarly to an execute. Try keeping your Ultimate until the enemy carries have already been taken low, in order to go in and finish the job with one ability. Nevertheless, if the situation calls for it, do not hesitate to use R as an escape tool, or to simply chip away at your enemies’ Health bars.
- Landing the charm can be difficult, so make the best of your Laners’ hard CC abilities in order to create an adequate setup for your charm.
Keeping your Mejai’s constantly maxed is essential. Do not go in for trades that do not look promising, and never engage in 1v3 fights, as one stun can end up with you dying and losing a considerable amount of stats.

Finalizing Thoughts
Once the Widowmaker hits LVL 6, her game changes dramatically. Instead of playing it out like most Junglers, by continuously clearing the mobs and occasionally ganking, Evelynn players want to be present all across the Summoner’s Rift.
Do not neglect the power of deep vision, as roaming Assassin’s love catching a glimpse of the enemy carry wandering alone in the Jungle, as it opens the door for easy picks.
In teamfights, your role is to keep the enemy team guessing your position, and to assassinate the enemy carries by walking deep into their backline. Unless protected by Control Wards, the enemy flanks are laughably easy to penetrate, by simply keeping a safe distance from the opposing champions.
Evelynn thrives in games where she can gain an early lead to stack up her Mejai’s with, so do not waste too much time clearing the Jungle camps, and instead focus your attention and charm to ganking. You want to engage in as many 2v1 fights as possible, in order to safely stack the Mejai’s Soulstealer.
Show yourself as little as possible and allow your enemies to always assume that you are nearby, giving you some precious time to keep clearing the Jungle in-between fights.
