Zeri is a strong ADC if you know how to play her. She has a lot of mobility and deals a good amount of damage thanks to her auto attacks and abilities. However, players started playing Zeri in the mid-lane and started to buy AP items. Since she has good scaling on her W, you can deal tons of damage without the enemy realizing it.
To play AP Zeri, you need to max your W and buy the relevant items. Plus, you need to make sure that you have the correct runes and rely on your AP abilities to deal damage.
If you are curious to know the full build of AP Zeri, continue reading to find out. We will also show you what your playstyle should be so that you perform well and annoy the enemy. With that said, let’s dive right in and check out the ultimate build guide for AP Zeri.

Runes
First of all, let’s take a look at the runes of AP Zeri. Since you will be focusing on dealing consistent poke damage, you need to take the relevant runes. As you can see in the image above, picking First Strike is the best way to go. In case you are wondering, here are the complete runes:
- First Strike
- Magical Footwear
- Future’s Market
- Cosmic Insight
- Eyeball Collection
- Treasure Hunter
While playing AP Zeri, First Strike will do wonders. It will always proc when you hit the enemy with your W. While you might not always get a lot of gold or damage with this rune, it is still a good source of damage during the laning phase. If it hits, you will deal additional damage to the enemy and they will be surprised how you are doing this much by going AP.
In the secondary tree, picking Treasure Hunter is the best course of action. You can gain a lot of gold by getting a takedown on the enemy. Combine this with your First Strike, and you have got yourself a powerful combo.
On top of that, choosing Eyeball Collection is quite effective since you will gain more damage after getting takedowns. If you get a good amount of stacks early on, you will deal so much damage that the enemy will have no choice but to be afraid of you. This will enhance your overall damage and allow you to push the enemy laner out of the lane.
Items
Now that we have taken a look at what runes you need to choose, let’s talk about the correct items. Since you are going for the AP build, you will naturally buy different items than ADC Zeri. Here is what your full build should look like in a normal game:
- Sorcerer’s Shoes
- Luden’s Tempest
- Shadowflame
- Muramana
- Rabadon’s Deathcap
- Mejai’s Soulstealer
Choosing Luden’s Tempest is the best choice since it will deal a lot of damage to the enemy. Plus, it will allow you to clear the caster minions easily. Once you use your W, the enemies hit by it will take increased damage thanks to the passive of this item.
At the same time, buying Shadowflame is quite effective since it allows you to deal more damage to the enemies since it ignores some of their magic resistance. Plus, if they have a few champions that have shields, this item is useful against them as well.
Finally, Rabadon’s Deathcap is a great choice since it will give you a lot of AP and allow you to deal tons of damage. While this item is a bit expensive, buying it will enhance your damage immediately. This will kill most squishy champions in one or two hits of your W.
The rest of the items vary and will depend on the situation of the game. However, if you go for the items shown in the image above, you will have a fun time and will have increased mana sustainability as well thanks to Muramana. So, build these items and enjoy AP Zeri!
Playstyle
Your play style will be more or less similar to AD Zeri. The only difference is that you will not rely on your auto attacks, instead, you will focus to use your W as much as you can. This will be effective at poking the enemy laner and forcing them to retreat from the lane. Plus, your ultimate will deal a lot of damage as well since it has a good AP scaling.
You will primarily want to poke the enemy with your W and farm the wave. Keep in mind that your basic attacks will not be as effective so you will have a somewhat difficult time farming minions. Plus, do not engage in auto-attack fights with the enemy since you will lose most of those.
Finally, since you are going AP, you will have reduced cooldowns on your spells. This means that you can use them freely without worrying about mana as well thanks to the relevant items. However, always keep your distance, and try to poke down the enemy before going all in.
Try to play safe during the laning phase since you will not have a lot of mana or mana regeneration at that time. Once you get your mythic item or a few items that give you a lot of mana, you can start poking the enemy and force them to retreat.
Also, since your W is empowered when fired through walls, make sure that you always do that. This will deal tons of damage to the enemy and it will also increase the range of your W as well. Plus, you can also empower it if you fire it through your turret.
