5 Best Teamfight Mid Lane Champions in League of Legends

Mid laners are the most team fight-heavy champions in League of Legends as they are usually the role that calls the shots. Most mid laners are also played by team captains in the pro scene of League of Legends, which makes sense that this is the role that goes on teamfights most often.ย

Another reason is that Mid laners are the ones situated in the middle of the map, they have easy access on all the other lanes including the jungle be it on their allied or enemy side.ย

Mid lane is mostly composed of caster mages that have long-range skill shots that can either burst multiple enemies in one location or stun enemies within a certain AOE. Because of mid lane magesโ€™ long-ranged skill shots, they are also great initiators. With that in mind, let us take a look at the 5 best teamfight mid laners.ย

1. Lux

Lux is the embodiment of long-ranged skill shots, she can use her basic abilities to poke enemies or initiate a kill thanks to the root that comes from her Q. All of her damaging abilities deal AoE damage making her a great team fight champion.ย

Her abilities also have very low cooldowns, you can spam them to either poke enemies or quickly cut a huge wave of minions down. During team fights, Lux can continuously damage their opponents by using all of her abilities to poke or burst enemies down.

Best item for Lux

Horizon Focus

Having long-ranged abilities is great especially when you are playing in the mid lane, it is also a great way to deal with your enemies during a teamfight while staying safe. All of these are great but they can even be improved with Horizon Focus on Lux. She can deal bonus damage with all of her spells because they all have long cast ranges.ย

Different Playstyle For Each Phase

Early Game Playstyle

Lux is a great lane bully thanks to her long-ranged abilities, her E can be constantly used to zone your opponent away every time they try to last hit a minion. Always make a trade with your opponent every time they make a move. If you have your Q, use it with your E and proc your passive which will proc your electrocute in turn. Focus on getting ahead of CS as you are a mid to late game champion and need to focus on farming during the early game.

Mid Game Playstyle

This is the phase where lux can dominate the game, she can easily win the lane priority in mid lane meaning she is the dominant mid laner that can roam around and help her teammates win team fights.

Lux can gank both mid or top lane and she can easily help her teammates even if she is still on the way thanks to her ultimateโ€™s extremely long range.ย

Late Game Playstyle

The late game is the phase where all fights are team fights and lux is just great on this phase. She can quickly and easily clear a minion wave with her ultimate from afar.

She can continuously poke enemies with her basic abilities just before a team fight erupts and she can also use her combo to burst away half of the entire enemy teamโ€™s HP bar before initiating a fight.ย

2. Orianna

Orianna is the fuel to all of those awe-inspiring wombo combos, and these wombo combos are the best things you can do during a team fight. Having to CC their entire team with a huge burst of damage that can also be followed by another burst from your teammates is just spectacular.ย

Oriannaโ€™s ball can be placed anywhere within her range and it can be a tool you can use to intimidate your opponents in many ways.

Best item for Orianna

Cosmic Drive

This item will give Orianna a huge boost in ability power and also a lot of utility passives. But the best thing that Orianna can gain in this item is the fact that it is the item that can give the highest amount of ability haste.

Orianna relies heavily on her cooldowns, especially from her Q, so when she has this item, not only will she move fast to initiate a team fight for her team, but she will also have a very aggressive playstyle because of her Qโ€™s very low cooldown.ย

Different Playstyle For Each Phase

Early Game Playstyle

During the early game, much like all the other mid laners, Orianna can use her Q to poke her enemies or even zone them away from minion exp or gold. You can also use your Q to last hit minions if you want to stay safe and want to constantly have the HP advantage over your enemy.

Mid Game Playstyle

During mid game, Orianna can roam the other laners and help them score takedowns, her ball can be cast from a long-range meaning she can initiate a team fight even from afar. She also works great when she is teamed up with champions that have great gap closers.

Late Game Playstyle

Late game Orianna has decent burst damage she can use to poke enemies before team fights erupt. She can even use her Q as a ward whenever she wants to check a bush for possible flanks or ambushes.ย

3. Lissandra

One of the best things you can do during team fights is shut off the strongest champion on the opposing team. Lissandra can easily do that with her ultimate, all she has to do is get in range of the opposing carry champion and hit R. Lissandra also has strong poke damage and incredible durability making her a great asset in every team fight.ย

Best item on Lissandra

Zhonyaโ€™s Hourglass

Lissandraโ€™s value comes during team fights, she is a tanky mage that can CC and poke multiple enemies, she can also deal stacking damage but no matter how tanky a champion is, there will always be an item to counter that durability.

With Zhonyaโ€™s Hourglass, Lissandra can easily get in the middle of the enemy team and use her ultimate on their carry, to survive she needs to use Zhonyaโ€™s hourglass and give enough time for her team to follow up on her initiation.

Different Playstyle For Each Phase

Early Game Playstyle

During the early game, just like with most of the champions out there, Lissandra can level her Q up first to have a strong poke damage, she can even use this to last hit minions. Her Q deals decent damage and has a slowing effect on enemies that she can use to bully her enemy out of minion influence.

Mid Game Playstyle

During mid game, if Lissandra has priority over her lane, she can always help the jungler secure objectives, she is a great asset when securing major objectives as she can easily use her ultimate on the enemy jungler to prevent him from counter smiting the major objective.

Late Game Playstyle

Lissandraโ€™s damage value falls off during the late game so youโ€™re gonna have to focus on bringing your value out in team fights as a utility champion or the one that picks the enemy carry off.

If you want, you can be a burst type mage and deal tons of AOE damage to your opponents before going into stasis with your ultimate and your Zhonyaโ€™s

4. Ziggs

Ziggs is a great damage source during team fights as all of his abilities deal AoE damage, just like Lux, Ziggs has very low cooldown reductions he can throw his bombs before, during, and after team fights.

Ziggs can also be used to push towers fast as he deals bonus damage on towers with his passive. His W is also another way to displace enemies during team fights which can be combined with Ziggsโ€™ E. You can use his W to instantly destroy towers under 25% hp.

Liandryโ€™s Torment

Having low cooldowns on spells, Ziggs can continuously put enemies under the effect of Liandriyโ€™s.

Different Playstyle For Each Phase

Early Game Playstyle

During the early game, Ziggs wins the zoning battle as he can use his passive and Q to poke his enemy down and gain the HP advantage. Ziggs also wins early game trades as he deals tons of damage with his Q and his passive alone, he can trade with champions right off the bat, and with this, he can gain control over that lane.ย

Mid Game Playstyle

During the mid-game, Ziggs can roam any lane he wishes to gank, his ultimate can be cast from afar giving him the luxury of helping his teammates even if he is still on the way. You are also a great asset during fights in the dragon pit as your ultimate can damage every opposing unit within the pit.

Late Game Playstyle

Late game Ziggs is a classic burst champion, he will have large pools of mana during the late game and he can keep on using his basic abilities without worrying about his mana. During team fights, you can lead with your ultimate ability to cast the effects of Liandriyโ€™s Demonic embrace.ย

5. Seraphineย

Seraphine is widely used in the bottom lane as a support champion thanks to the trend, but little do players know that Riot games intended her to be played in the mid lane as a burst and utility mage.

Seraphineโ€™s introduction made Sonaโ€™s ultimate obsolete as her ultimate has a wider AoE and longer range. It even resets its cast range every time it hits a champion be it an ally or opponent. Seraphine has a passive that lets her double-cast her ability every time she fills up her passive bar.ย

Best item for Seraphine

Rylaiโ€™s Crystal Scepter

Seraphine can root enemies with her E given that the enemy hit is already slowed or movement impaired, with Rylaiโ€™s Crystal Scepter, Seraphine wonโ€™t need to use her double cast on her E to root an enemy champion.

Different Playstyle For Each Phase

Early Game Playstyle

During the early game, Seraphine easily wins the poking battle as her Q deals bonus damage the lower the hp of her opponent. She can easily bully her opponents out of the lane as soon as she learns her E.

Mid Game Playstyle

Seraphine is not that great at ganks because enemies can easily spot her from a mile away, and her abilityโ€™s ranges are not that long so she needs to get close before casting her initiating abilities. If she manages to get the jump on the enemies, she can easily set them up for takedown.

Late Game Playstyle

Late game Seraphine stands in the middle of her team and can initiate team fights with her ultimate where ever she is because the range of her ultimate gets reset every time it hits a champion.ย

Final Thoughts

Notice that most of these champions have AoE abilities, this is because, during teamfights, you will need to have abilities that will hit multiple enemies at once. This is the reason why assassin champion only thrive until mid-game.
