How To Carry As An ADC in League of Legends?

AD Carry is one of the most critical roles to play in League of Legends. The difference between two teams can often be explained by how well the AD Carry of one team is doing compared to the other. In team fights and the early laning phase, the enemy team will try and kill your ADC first. And ideally, your team should do the same. Donโ€™t let the enemy ADC farm or get fed.

Learning to carry as an ADC is critical regardless of whether you are trying to get to Diamond or hoping to crawl out of Bronze V.

Farm Well

It goes without saying that farming CS well is what every role in League of Legends requires, apart from Support. If you want to be ahead of your competition, you need to be ahead in your creep score.

It would be best if you tried to last hit about 80 to 100 minions in the first 10 minutes of the game. You are going to want to be well familiar and at ease with the movement, animation, and ability dynamics of your champion.

Try to save ability damage for the cannon minions. With enough practice, keeping one eye on minions with low HP almost becomes second nature.

There isnโ€™t a strong need to try and hit minions to lower their health. Just hit them when you know they will die with your basic attack.

Donโ€™t Die Early

This might seem pretty obvious initially, but if you pay close attention, you will realize it is tough to climb back up again if you have died a few times before the first 10 minutes are over and your opponent still hasnโ€™t died once.

Dying early multiple times has a cascade effect. When you die, you respawn at your base, and it can take anywhere from 30 seconds to over a minute to get back to your turret. That allows your opponent to get ahead in CS by at least one or two complete minion waves.

That translates into a difference of a minimum of 100 to 200 Gold. When you reach back, your opponent will probably go to the base and come back with upgraded items.

They will have the advantage again, being able to do more damage, kill more minions and substantially depreciate your turret health. If you die again, the cycle repeats, and you will fall further behind.

Even if you are behind in CS, itโ€™s still best to try and not die early. Just wait for your Jungler or Mid-laner or Top-laner to come to gank the enemy and play safely in the meanwhile. Having more kills is excellent, but having fewer deaths early on in the game can be equally helpful.

Understand Your Support

This understanding begins in the Champion Select screen, if not earlier. You and your Support need to pick champions with abilities that complement each other. Bot-Lane can be a lot of fun if you, as the AD Carry, have a good understanding with your Support.

This means knowing when to attack together, warning each other of potential danger, e.g., your Support plugs deep wards in the river and in the bushes to keep you safe.

Your Support responds to enemy attacks that harass you. And you, as the AD Carry, will extend the same courtesy to your partner in the bot lane.

Complement Your Abilities With Your Support

Two simple examples of bot-lane combos with complementing abilities are as follows. Veigarโ€™s Event Horizon and Miss Fortuneโ€™s Make It Rain, when used together, can trap enemies and make it impossible for them to escape damage by Miss Fortune.

Before reaching level 6, this simple combo can be effective at harassing the enemy bot-laners. If you time it right, you can trap the enemy AD Carry and Support and hit them together.

Similarly, Lucian and Blitzcrank have abilities that complement each other. Lucian excels at burst damage, while Blitzcrank is pretty good at pulling enemies closer for your AD Carry to hit them with that burst damage. Combine Blitzcrankโ€™s Rocket Grab and Power Fist for a one-two punch.

Meanwhile, Lucian can reposition with Relentless Pursuit and inflict maximum damage on the enemy with his Piercing Light and Ardent Blaze. At level 6, Lucian and Blitz can time their ultimates for a guaranteed kill on the enemy AD Carry.

There are, of course, many other combinations in the bot lane besides these two.

When choosing your champions, you need to keep the enemy bot-lane combination in mind, and their abilities potentially complement each other. This will help you pick a team that can counter enemy attacks easily.

Know When To Engage

That is a massive part of what it means to be an AD Carry. You need to be aware that while you can do a lot of damage, you are squishy. Engage only when you are sure you can escape with a kill or at least, escape after inflicting damage.

There is not a lot of benefit to getting a kill and then dying yourself. The AD Carry is an asset for the team. You need to watch your Support and see when your Support engages the enemy.

During teamfights, your teammates should ideally try and protect you from damage. At the same time, you need to position yourself so that you are ready to engage with the enemy at a momentโ€™s notice.

Donโ€™t jump in to start the fight. Donโ€™t start a fight with the enemy tank. Donโ€™t go and start harassing the enemy mid-laner who might be a Mage or an Assassin equipped to kill squishy damage dealers.

Carrying The Game

Three simple Doโ€™s are rare enough for an AD Carry to help their team win the game. Farm a lot, donโ€™t die early, and donโ€™t engage unless you either have to, or you have a back-up with teammates close by.

Playing as AD Carry and being able to carry the game can be a very rewarding experience.

Keep up the pressure on the enemy by having more CS and try not to get killed. Before you know it, youโ€™ll be dominating the laning phase and teamfights alike and carry the game as AD Carry.
