Best Places To Put Wards in the Mid Lane

If you’re a midlaner, warding is one of the first things that you need to be good at. It’s one of the most underrated concepts in the game and if done right you can pretty much guarantee a ganking-free match.

The mid-lane offers more warding locations given the design of the map which means a bigger responsibility on your shoulders. It may feel like a lot of pressure but don’t sweat it. Here are the best places to put wards in the mid-lane. Nail these and you’ve got yourself a win.

Where to Place Wards In Mid Lane?

Now we’re going to do this in a step-by-step way. Each match has three separate stages and where you place your wards depends on which stage you’re in and what strategy your team decides to go with.

During the Early Phase

During the early part of the game most experienced junglers are going to try and look for a way to gank you and so vision becomes a big part of the game. Now as to where you should place wards, that depends on where you think the junglers are coming from. Let’s say you start from the blue side. In that case, this area in the bottom lane right in the middle of the map is where you should place your first ward.During the Early Phase

First of all, this will help you prevent an early gank from the enemy at level 2 or even a later level if they decide to go directly into the blue side. As for when you should place a ward I would suggest that you place this around the 1 minute and 20 second mark since that is going to last until the 2 minute and 50 second mark of the match.

Now that’s a pretty long time but that’s usually how long it takes for junglers to clear the red side of the map. This strategy should give you excellent vision and stop you from getting ganked.

In case you see junglers coming your way it’s your job to communicate that to the top laner so they can come down and help you. Communication is key here.

If you’re facing pressure early on, then you might want to place two wards to the left and right of your tower, below the mid-harpies.

During the Middle Phase

Now as move into the mid-game part of the match you should most definitely be looking into buying a red or pink ward. A red or pink ward is essential at this part of the game.

It’s even more useful if you’re getting camped permanently and want to avoid getting ganked from behind, especially by a jungler that can skip walls like LeeSin, Hecarim, Kayn, and Talon. In this case, you should try placing a ward here.During the Middle Phase

The above picture is for Blue Side. Red Side should follow the same idea but things would look a tad bit different like this.During the Middle Phase

At this point, you should also be looking into warding your dragon pit in case the enemy decides to try and get an early steal in. One of the most popular wards you’d see being placed here is the one on the bush between mid-lane and the dragon pit.

Some people also try putting wards in the dragon pit itself but I would recommend against doing that since wards placed there would be visible faster to the bottom laners like Support.

If you want to apply pressure during this part of the game, then try placing your wards to the left and right of the enemy tower, above the mid harpies on the map.

During the Late Phase

Finally, as we move into the late part of the game, vision becomes the determining factor on who’s going to win. During this stage of the game, your primary focus should be on controlling the central lane stretching from east to west.

I would recommend placing a ward in the middle bush near Dragon and another around the Baron pit area. That should give you plenty of vision in the area.

How to Ward When You’re Losing?

Of course, when you’re losing, your strategy should switch from offense to defense. Both teams can try out different positions. The red team can go with something like this. How to Ward When You’re Losing?

At this point, it becomes all about controlling the jungle and limiting your enemy there. The blue team can follow a similar approach.

Conclusion

All in all, being a mid-laner is not a walk in the park. It’s a high-traffic area with Jungler and Support walking about. Do your job right and your teammates might just thank you.

  1. Hamza, your post stirred memories of my first adventure in Norway. Experiencing the Northern Lights there was ethereal, almost magical- just like what you’ve vividly depicted. How did you feel witnessing it in person? I’m especially intrigued by your use of Nikola Tesla’s quantum physics theories to explain the lights, a perspective many ignore. However, have you considered including the role of solar winds? There’s an interesting intersection between space weather and earth science at play. Also, can you drop a hint about how the ‘September Equinox’ affects the visibility? The personal and scientific blend you’ve achieved is truly commendable and makes for engaging reading. Amazing work! Can’t wait for what tale you bring next. 💫👏
