League of Legends offers players the chance to earn a lot of rewards and show their achievements to other players. As such, a mechanic that is present in the game is to earn Honor depending on how often you are commended.
If you are a newer player or do not know how the Honor system works, worry not because we will answer that question for you right now. The whole system can be quite difficult to understand since Riot hasn’t explained everything explicitly.
Since it isn’t set in stone, it can take anywhere between a couple of weeks to a month to reach Honor level 3. If you want to get higher Honor levels, you will have to get even more honors and not break the summoner’s code.
With that said, let’s dive right in and find out what you can do to earn more honors and what the average time is to get to each level.

What is Honor Level?
First things first, we need to talk about what Honor level is and how it affects your game. Riot Games introduced the Honor mechanic quite a while ago and it is wonderful. This system rewards players that stick to the summoner’s code and are great to play with.
Each summoner starts with 0 Honor level and they slowly climb the ranks depending on how much honor they get. If you do not know what honor is, it is essentially the commend mechanic from DOTA 2. If you played well or stayed cool during a heated game, your teammates might give you the honor to show their respect to you.
The more honors you get, and the more frequent you get honored, you will gain Honor levels. Depending on your level, you will get more rewards. This is Riot’s way of showing that they appreciate players that follow the summoner’s code and are a treat to play with.
There are a total of five Honor levels; each with its own rewards. To get to the next level, you need to cross three checkpoints. Now, while each checkpoint can be crossed with the same amount of games, it can take you anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month.
If you want to get to Honor level 3 on a new account, you will need to get consistently honored in every game. Whether you get one honor or more, you need to ensure that you are fun to play with.
Normally, it can take out about 3 weeks to a month to get to Honor level 3 from 0. If you are playing with your premade, ask them to honor you after every game. While the honor of your premade isn’t as effective as a random person’s, it is still better than nothing.
When to Honor Players?
Now that we have talked about what the Honor level is and how long it can take to move on to the new level, let’s take a look at when you should honor players. At the end of each game, you will be shown your team and you will be given the option to honor a single player.
While most players only honor the person that carried the game or had the best score, you should honor the person that you feel truly deserved it. There are three options to choose from:
- Tilt-proof, chill: Stayed cool is the Honor meant for a teammate who stayed calm and was a provider of a positive playing experience.
- Great Shotcalling: Great Shotcalling is the Honor meant for a teammate who had good leadership and was able to lead your team to a triumphant win or a gracious defeat.
- GG <3: GG <3 is the Honor meant for a teammate who made you smile or have fun while playing the game.
If a player is given three Honors, everyone in the lobby will get an animation to let them know that this player is well-liked by their team. The best way to get more honors is to play better and stay cool during a heated game.
Oftentimes, you will notice that a member of your team is not having a fun time and they are going to town in the chat. However, if you or someone else on your team didn’t take their words to heart and stayed cool to focus on the game, you should honor them.
Rewards For Getting Honored
Finally, let’s take a look at the rewards that you can get if you get honored. Since it can take some time to get to a new level, Riot wants to show players that it is worth it to be better to your team and follow the summoner’s code.
Once you reach a new checkpoint, you will gain an Honor Orb. Opening this orb will grant you key fragments and champions. However, once you reach a new level, you will get the Honor Capsule.
