How Much XP Does a Kill Give in League of Legends?

Gaining experience (or XP) is extremely important in League of Legends because it allows your champion to level up and gain new abilities. For a new player, leveling up their abilities might not matter as much but it makes a lot of difference.

If you solo kill an enemy, you can get anywhere between 42-990 XP depending on the enemy champion level. If you get an assist, you can get anywhere between 28-990 XP depending on the enemy champion level.

How Much XP Does a Kill Give?

As aforementioned, you will gain XP based on what the enemyโ€™s level is. If you kill an enemy that is lower level than you, your champion will not get as much XP.

On the other hand, if you kill an enemy that is higher level than you, your character will gain more XP than normal. This is done so that players do not keep killing the lower level enemies and get a lot of XP.

Otherwise, the game would be quite unfair for the losing side.

Plus, getting more XP while killing a higher level enemy allows you to close the gap and make a comeback. If you get an assist or another allied champion is nearby, you will get less XP since it will be divided between all the champions. That is why the bot lane is always a bit behind in XP compared to other solo lanes.

Plus, assists grant less XP on their own since you only helped to kill the enemy. If you are curious to know exactly how much XP you can get by solo killing an enemy depending on their level, weโ€™ve compiled it down below.

Also, the maximum level is 18 in League of Legends, and you will not get more XP after reaching that. At that point, you unlock all your abilities and will be full build as well.

Also, if you are curious to know how much XP is shared depending on how many champions are nearby, worry not because weโ€™ve got you covered.

  • Two champions each gain 62.36%

Now that we know how much XP a solo kill and an assist gives, let us take a look at how much experience a champion needs to level up. As mentioned earlier, the maximum level in League of Legends is 18 and you cannot go higher.

The only exception is if you are playing another game mode such as URF. When you reach level 18, you will still gain XP but it will not do anything for you.

16 1680 14700 49
17 1780 16480 54
18 1880 18360 60

While it might look like it takes a long time to reach level 18 since you need to farm 60 minion waves, you can earn XP in other ways as well. You can kill enemy champions, farm neutral jungle monsters, get objectives, and kill minions.

Also, keep in mind that some items in the game require a certain level before you can buy or use them. This is done so that the players do not abuse the items and gain an unfair advantage. Some of these items include things like Elixers, Farsight Trinket, and more.
